Business rates relief ‘still needed’

A sudden withdrawal of business rates relief in Scotland will lead to more companies going bust, politicians have been warned.

The Scottish government has been providing help for businesses in some sectors so they did not have to pay non-domestic rates during the pandemic. That has included full relief for many operators in the retail, aviation, hospitality and tourism sectors. However, the rates support is scheduled to come to an end in April next year and business owners are worried about whether their full bills will be reinstated.
